About CouchSetup

CouchSetup is run by Muhammad. Here's why the site exists, how every guide gets researched, and how the site makes money.

Hi, I’m Muhammad, and CouchSetup is my site.

Buying a TV or a soundbar shouldn’t need three weekends of reading. But that’s usually how it goes. One review says a TV is great for bright rooms, another says the reflections are bad, a forum thread says the input lag ruins it for gaming, and the store page just says “stunning picture”. By the end you know more, but you’re not any closer to a decision.

That’s the gap I wanted to fill. CouchSetup takes all of that reading, puts it in one place, and turns it into a plain answer for a normal room: a living room, a bedroom, a small apartment, a basement with a couch in it. Not a $20,000 dedicated cinema.

What you’ll find here

Setup guides built around real room sizes, buying guides and comparisons for TVs, soundbars, projectors and streaming devices, and quick fixes for the everyday stuff, like dialogue you can’t hear or a TV that makes movies look like a soap opera. There are also a few free calculators for TV size, projector distance and speaker placement, because guessing those numbers is how people end up with a TV that’s too small.

How I research things

I’ll be straight about this: CouchSetup isn’t a test lab, and I don’t get every product delivered to my door. So I don’t pretend I’ve tested things I haven’t.

What I do instead is go through the expert reviews and measurements that already exist, from places like RTINGS, What Hi-Fi?, TechRadar, Tom’s Guide and ProjectorReviews, plus good video reviews and the manufacturer’s own spec sheets. I pull the numbers that actually matter into one sheet (brightness, input lag, ports, sizes, what owners keep complaining about) and compare products against rivals at the same price. When the sources disagree, I say so in the article.

The full method is on the How We Test page, and the rules I follow are in the Editorial Policy.
